Who doesn't know about Zombie? Zombie has become the most famous 'celeb-monster' in the whole universe. Hollywood has made movies about it (a romance movie about zombie), even a couple of TV series about this zombie apocalypse have became top two most popular TV series (source: imdb).
This game is also about human survival against zombies. Like the title of the game, we have to survive the arena that was created by Dr. Bastard (the mischievous character inside the game). In this arena, Dr. Bastard will release his zombie experiments against you, the lone challengers that's called Blind Warrior.
Yes! We're blind! And this is why the game get very interesting to play. We won't be able to see anything, we're only equipped with range and melee weapons, some power-ups that can be shot, and our ears. This is why the game is called Audio Defence: Zombie Arena, created by UK based developer, Somethin' Else.
There are three different controls that we can choose, swipe, tilt, and Gyroscope. Using the latest control will require our bodies to turn around according where the zombie might coming. Thanks to powerful 3D audio engine, we can predict the direction of the zombies, turn our body on that side and shoot them on head.
Talking about shooting, there are total 14 upgrade-able weapons that have their own unique ability. Those weapons are including Shotgun, Rifle, SMG, Bazooka, a Wok (it's the melee weapon), and so many more. There are also 15 zombies in total that won't make the game any easier at all. And yes, each zombie is possessing their own unique voice and ability. So we will know that a Farties Zombie will be sounding a bit nasty, Clown will be sounded like a dead clown, and Chainsaw Zombie will always be ready to start its chainsaw machine.
We will have several chapters to play with the story-line, but if for any reason you need more zombies to be killed, it has endless waves for you to prove your skills in annihilating all those nasty zombies.
Things I Like
I'm an audiophile geeky and I always love listening to a great audio (especially that 7.1 surround effect). This Audio Defence however, is in a league of their own. It has a top notch quality of audio engineering, resulting a very detail surround audio, yet they still a game that fun to be play with. It's not surprising since the developer of Audio Defence is also known for creating similar audio only game called Papa Sangre II.
The audio quality is a top-notch and you really have to agree with me on that (if you don't believe me, check out this trailer first and make sure you use your headphone while listen to it).
I love every effort that have been put inside the game. Not only the unique voice of each zombie and weapon, but even the sound of the power-ups are also taken into care. Moreover, in one mission, I need to figure out where the power generator is. To do that, I need to shoot the zombies while listening to a iron voice effect that hit by a bullet.
Since the game is audio only, it suits any blind gamers out there. It has the accessibility to give feedback to all gamers, so you can even close your eyes while playing this game.
This kind of game is rarely found in this industry. This is an audio only game with immerse ability that unite you with the game and letting your imagination run wild. Who knows what the zombie will look like, it can be cute, it can be totally scary, you decide it. Only, don't let them come too close to you.
